Artisan Crafts / Costumery

The gentleman requesting this commission really loves Purge from the quirky rhythm game Space Channel 5. The pattern was derived from a costume pattern, intended to make Neo's jacket from the Matrix movies. I only had to make it close all the way down and make the neck higher. The real challenge was adding the giant P design and designing flaps to avoid disrupting the design with the jacket's natural seams. I made it out of a poly-cotton blend, so it's machine-washable and he doesn't roast in it. I also used Velcro closures, so he can get in and out of it quickly for performances.

I recommend making the coat out of cheap fabric (or tracing fabric) and sketching the P on it. Then cutting out the pieces. That's ultimately how I wound up doing it.
